What's in Tin #2?

Oh, my, I'm not paying attention to dates and it is the 10th of January! I need to let you know what is in Tin #2. Well, it's another kit and this one is for the Snowman quilt you see in the photo. It's just a small wall quilt and is another one that I designed for a Community Ed class. This one has a whimsical feature added to it - a pointy carrot nose, eyes of coal, raisins for his mouth and all made out of clay! The quilt is called "Charlie's Snowman" and was inspired when I looked out one winter night and across the street the neighbor boys had built one lone snowman and all I could see was his silhouette in the dark. You'll get all the fabrics needed to complete this and the eyes, nose, and "raisin" mouth pieces. All you need to add is thread to stitch it up and a little piece of batting for it. Please add your name to this post for another chance to get your name in the drawing for my "Snowflake Surprise Giveaway".
Now about this tree on the right. I know Christmas is over but I just have a few more things I have to share with you and this is one of them. When I stopped to visit my daughter a few days after Christmas, my grandson, Jacob was showing me some of the things he got for Christmas. We were in his room and there on the shelf was this little tree. And he said "you gave that to me and we put it there every year". I thought that was so cute. I decorated the little tree in the early 90's and made it thinking of my son because he loved, loved dinosaurs when he was little. He's grown now and not much for decorating for Christmas (one real tiny tree will suffice) so I passed this on to Jacob. I loved all the little dinosaurs but here's the funny part.............you're probably thinking they are just plastic dinosaur toys but look closely...........they are in pairs..........and that's because they were earrings!!! I bought them for about a quarter each and no wonder!! Who would wear dinosaurs on their ears!!! They look much better on this tree and I even had a piece of dinosaur braid to trim the base of the tree for just the right finishing touch! I'm thinking this might be a "one-of-a-kind tree". :-)
So if you leave your name to get in the drawing, tell me ........ what is the most uniquely decorated tree that you have ever done or seen? You don't have to comment to get in the drawing but it's so fun to see what pops up in answer to my questions!!
Have a good Sunday! Going to be in the 20s tomorrow so it's a heat wave in Minnesota. Gotta enjoy it as it'll be a deep freeze here by mid-week if the weatherman is right.

I love your snowmen. They are so cute and very much like the ones I remember from my childhood. The most unique tree was the one my husband gave me in 1975. He wasn't much for the decorating scene either. I came home from work to a large twig from an ASPEN tree planted in a coffee can of gravel with on item hanging from a side 'branch'--an empty rifle cartridge. It was a--Cartridge in a Bare Tree. He was so proud :0}

I am a snowman fanatic. I collect them and every Christmas my house is "snowman-a-palooza". The rest of the year, things are pretty plain so it's fun to bring out the snowmen! Your wallhanging is so cute and what a great idea to have 3-D features!

I have a tree story but it's not really about decorating; it's about the tree itself. When we lived up north (waaayyyy north - 58th parallel) we used to just pick up a tree from the woods near the road. One year, we picked our tree in the dark (you're not really supposed to take them) and when we got home, we found that one side had almost no branches. My genius husband cut branches from the bottom and nailed them to the bare spot. Looked quite good once it was decorated haha.

I have to say ... I'm still laughing at Nanabarbs comment ... "... a cartridge in a bare tree...." that's hilarious!!! I have no unusual tree stories I'm afraid, but what fun I'm having reading the others. I'll be coming back for more :o)
Hugs,
Joy :o)

Hi Sandi:)
I happen to read the link about cold milk upon your advice. I'm pretty agree with it. Let me put my personal addy that I also expect Israelis see how just a simple thing (such as milk or a toy) can make a big difference.. instead of sending bombs for the innocent people.

I'd love to win your giveaway. The most unique tree I know of is one in an area library. They keep it up year-round and decorate it differently each month. I especially love their tree during one of the summer months.......when they have tiny pails and shovels and beach balls and things like that on the branches. Also...if you go to my blog and look at my Jan. 10 post, you will see a tree that is made of poinsettia plants. It's not unique as I've seen them before, but I think it's pretty nice anyway. LOVE the cartridge in a bare tree story!!! :) I went to your cookies and milk link and sent that out to everyone on my email list and many said they are going to donate to the lady's efforts.

ENter me please for another chance. I saw a lovely tree on line this year where the woman had a 'beach' theme. It was so pretty. THe balls were sea blues and greens, she had 'stars' for star fish that she made of clothes pins I think; also little sea birds she made of fabric and stuffed for ornaments....I so totally love sea blue/green together! And sand/cream for a complimentary color....just lovely!

Now, who in the world but you would think of using earrings to decorate a Christmas tree!! It's just so perfect for a little boy and it seems that your grandson appreciates your efforts.

Your snowmen are so adorable and I would love to be able to make my own.So, naturally, I would love to win your drawing.

Hello there Sandi, I was on your site yesterday and I wondered about Tin #2! :)....Please put me into the hat once again :)...the snowman's hat!

As for the tree and the earring story...I love it. And you have unwittingly given a crafty tip to your readers; one that I found just before Christmas and that is the idea of looking at all the neat earrings that are out there. There are so many and they come in all shapes and sizes and themes! I found some Christmas ones; very cheap and I picked up a few and put them in my "new" "Earring jar"...kind of the like the buttonjar concept. Besides decorating miniature trees, think of all the embellishing that can be done with earrings! ;).

Funny story Nanabarb! :) Men!

Have a great day!

I don't have any tree stories but I loved the dinosaur tree. Isn't it neat all the things we could do with earrings!

I wanted a tree with a bear theme. I used stickers on posterboard with rickrack trim.

I don't believe I've ever seen or heard of a dinosaur tree before, so it probably is truly unique!!

The oddest Christmas tree we've ever had was the year tried to save space and only put the branches on one side of our artificial tree so we could push it up to the wall. I saw on the Today show this year, they sell them like that now.

I love to win the snowman kit. I love snowmen.
Nanabarb DH is a Hoot, My sons would enjoy his Christmas tree.
As far as my unique Christmas tree until recently we have always had a cedar tree. I love the whispiness of the tree. We decorate it with ornaments we have the boys and I made. Our favorite ornaments were made from salt dough and cut out with Christmas cookie shapes a then we painted them. memories.

I think I'm beginning to fall in love with Snowmen! And your dino tree is just spectular. I would never have thought to come up with something as unique as this. How cute it is still displayed. I don't have a tree comment about, I always do the regular old green tree and the old and probably antique glass ornaments which once belonged to my parents. Oh well, no imagine here, can't you tell. Great snowman. I don't think I have an example of an unusual tree although our church put up a patriotic tree this year and added pics of anyone in the service that our church members knew. I think we are keeping it up all year.

I think your dinosaur tree is the most unique! Very fun for the kids!

I always decorate our tree the same way - the kids love traditions and don't want any change here. I bought most of the ornaments in the U.S., so the tree is rather colorful compared to other trees here in Germany.

Love your snowman pattern!!!

It's definatly not as unique as your dino tree--but I like to decorate a kitchen tree with cookie cutters, gingerbread men, cinnamon sticks and other mini-kitchen utensils. Angie

I love your snowmen and am glad you are doing the BOM in two versions (I might make BOTH). You do such great work. I wonder if you ever sleep at night? :)

Your snowmen are wonderful. I can't wait for the give away!! We actually have what I call a fishing tree since we like to fish that is the theme for our tree.

Oh no, I almost missed this chance! I am sorry to say there is nothing, not one thing, unique about our own Christmas tree! This past Christmas, 2008, was the 24th year that we have used this same tree. We put the same 900 or so lights on it and the same ornaments, only adding the new ones from each year. We even put it in the same place in the family room!

I would love to get creative one year and do something totally different, but I think that would throw my husband into cardiac arrest. Change doesn't sit well with him!

Thanks for another opportunity to win your wonderful prizes!

I collect snowmen. I love this! I was in a Georgia mansion last year and every room was decorated with a different theme. One was raggedies, one teddy bears, etc. Very cool!
