What's on the line?

I think you may have seen this quilt hanging from my front porch but never on the line. It looks pretty wherever it's hung. :-) I love the colorful hexagons even though they are pretty random. The quilt just says "Crazy for Pink" to me. Oh, yes, I do I so love pink!
As you know, I went to a retreat this past weekend and I took all my 30's reprodution prints along. This quilt may have been made as long ago as the 1920's and as late as the 1960's. I have no info on it as it's one my parents bought at auction and so it's maker is unknown. Grandmother's flower garden was made by hundreds of quilters over the years. It's not necessarily an easy quilt to make but the results are often stunning. For some reason, I personally see this quilt as stunning. I just love it! I took it along just to have as inspiration this weekend. I like to keep a quilt in the car, just in case I have car trouble out on the road. :-) Now, mind you, I was only going 50 miles, but better to be prepared than to be sorry. :-) There was no chance of needing to keep warm, though, as we are in a really hot spell right now. Sometimes windy, pretty humid, great weather for going to the beach or just relaxing on the porch!

I like this quilt so much, I'm going to share another picture of it. I love watching the quilts blow in the wind..........One of the projects that I worked on at the retreat was a new mock-up of this little quilt/tablerunner. I have been promising a tutorial for this and finally I got the necessary stitching done and photos taken! Look for a tutorial later this week.
I am pretty sure that I have shown these last two quilts with you in a previous post. However, I can't find the post if I did so maybe I am only imagining that I shared them. So, here they are.........two vintage crazy quilt tops, just waiting to be embellished with stitches............

However, before I begin to embellish them, I decided they must be washed. This being Monday and it's "Washday", I thought it would be a perfect time to take my quilt soap and very carefully laundered both these quilt tops (I'll be doing them seprately). Then I'll take them out to the line and let the days heat and wind dry them nicely. :-) Once they are clean and pressed lightly, then I'll feel more comfortable doing the embellishment stitches on the quilt top. :-) You'll see these again.:-)
I was so tired from staying up late at the retreat, that I nodded off at the computer while I was typing this. It's a good think I'm not behind the wheel of my car! I'll get my retreat pictures loaded later today and tell you all about the retreat in my next post. In the meantime, have a very good Monday. And if you are in the hot midwest......stay cool! What a hot week we have ahead of us!

I'll bet you're tired from the retreat and your coming week of high temps will make you tired too. Just chill and take things slow. Enjoyed those quilts.

Retreats are so fun. But so exhausting! The quilts on the line are beautiful. I can almost smell my sheets from when I was a kid and my mom hung clothes outside. Oh that was a great smell.

Love seeing all those beautiful quilts hanging on your line. Nothing better than the fresh smell of lined dried quilts!
Can't wait to hear about your retreat!

Beautiful quilts. I remember making hexegons quilts many many years ago, and used the English paper piecing method. Nice you enjoyed your retreat. Thank you for sharing.
Happy Quilting!

I love the grandmother's flower garden quilt.. not that I don't love the others...just really lovee that one. I have a bunch of 30's fabric just waiting for me to get to it. I might have to start slowly and just keep making hexagons.
Look forward to seeing your retreat post.
