Fall into Fall Giveaway!

Update: And the winner is..................the winner is Sherri at A Quilting Life!!! You'll find her blog here. I have sent her an e-mail and as soon as I get her snail mail address the package will be on it's way to her house. Thank you to everyone who left a comment and shared a memory of fall.

Debi at QuiltingwithDebi came up with the idea to have great big blog giveaway and I signed up to be a part of this fun giveaway. There are 40 bloggers participating so there are a lot of opportunities to win some really fun quilty and crafty things!! This is my favorite time of the year and I start thinking about working on wool and felt projects so I knew almost right away what I would offer for a giveaway. Since I started blogging last May, Brown Bear has been my unofficial Giveaway ambassador but he is off hibernating so I have asked Percy Pumpkin to say "Hello" to all of you and a big welcome to my "Fall into Fall Giveaway"! Percy is sitting next to a fall harvest of woolfelt that could be yours if you leave a comment with your name and a link to your blog or your e-mail address between 12:00 a.m. October 1st and midnight on October 15th. International posts are welcome.

The basket contains 25 - ten inch squares from National Nonwoven's Centennial colors, plus the hand towel that says "Fall Harvest". But that's not all you'll get if you are the lucky winner. No, there will be lots more stuff in the box that you'll receive because everyday from October 1st through October 15th I will be adding other items to this "Fall into Fall Giveaway"!! So, leave me a comment and share a memory of fall because I do love this time of year so much. Percy will help me mail the package but he stays with me. I created him for a contest in our arts society a few years ago when we did a "decorate a pumpkin, any kind of pumpkin contest". I was the President of the group at the time so I didn't enter him but made him just for the fun of it. He'll tell you a bit about who he is when I announce the winner on October 15th. Oh, and before I forget, this is post #97 so in a few days there may be another Giveaway to celebrate 100 posts!

To check out all the Giveaways in the great "Fall into Fall Giveaway", you'll want to check out the list at the "Fall into Fall Giveaway" blog.

Happy Fall!!!

Sandi

Bloggers and non-bloggers are welcome but if you don't have a blog, please provide your e-mail address so that I may contact you if you are the winner!!

My favorite memory of fall was when I was young. My two sisters and I would rake all the leaves in our neighbors yard into a large pile and then jump into them til we were exhausted. What a fun carefree time!

Wow, what a lovely giveaway. My lovely thoughts of Autumn (other side of the world here) are the crackle of dry laves, the intense warm colours that give the sky such a beautiful glow.

Fantastic give away... oh my dear Percy is so cute. I love working with felts and wools... I would love to be entered into your drawing. Thank you so much for your wonderful contributions for this very fun event.
What I like about Fall... Halloween of course.. My favorite part the home-made carmel apples. I dip them and roll them in all sorts of garnishes and then I drizzle white, milk, and dark chocolate on them ... They are wrapped up and given away :) Something I have done for several years now.

E-mail comment from Laura - I love this time of year when the Season of Fall begins ~ the slight nip in the air and the colors of Fall with the leaves on the trees changing. October is a full month with birthdays in our family-my nephew, my sister, my mother-in-law, my mother and also myself, so a lot of celebrating going on. I also love Halloween; it is such a great time. I always remember the fun we had dressing up the kids, taking them out going door-to-door “trick or treating,” and how excited they were when they came home with a HUGE bagful of candy. Some years were rainy and freezing cold, others were nice and warm. The kids are now 17 and 15, so no more taking them around the block and worrying about what the weather will be, and no more bagfuls of candy. Yeah! I do still love watching all the trick or treaters that come to the house to see what they will be dressed up like each year ~ ghosts, pumpkins, angels and more! What a fun time of year!

I would love to enter your contest. My favorite fall moment is from last years fall. First let me tell you I live in the middle of Californina in a valley. We don't really get a Fall, we get HOT and COLD and we get lots more HOT than cold. Anyway about a 2 1/2 hour drive away up in the mountains (I use this term loosley) they have a place called Apple Hill. They most definately have fall there and my husband and I go every year in October (matter of fact we will be going there one week from today on our way for a 3 day vacation in Lake Tahoe)The weather up there has that nice coolness that you think of when fall arrives. The trees are beautiful and there are so many places to visit, different orchards and fruit stands. It takes all day but it is so worth it. Last year we went up on a Friday and it was just so much fun going from one place to the other picking up different apples with names that I had never heard of before but were oh so good to eat. We had lunch in a small little park area across from Larsons barn (one of the places selling apples) it has a small waterfall and we just enjoyed being together and talking. After lunch we went to Able's acres and bought all kinds of Apple goodies, not just apples to eat, but fritters, and doughnuts and pies, and dumplings and struedels~they have the best goodies around so if you are ever in the area of Apple Hill make sure you stop by Able's acres and get an apple fritter...We usually buy a dozen and freeze the rest. Then we head home and stop somewhere along the way to have dinner out. The drive up there is just gorgeous if you take the back roads (NO Highway 50)there are so many pretty trees that we don't see down here in the valley.
So that's it my favorite memory
Apple Hill with my beloved!
Blessings,Joann

Fall is one of my absolute favorite time of the year, so you can imagine my dismay that I now live in Phoenix where there is almost no fall at all! I have so many memories of fall that I can't just pick one, so here is an incomplete list: crunching on dried leaves, the COLORS!, carving pumpkins, apple cider, jacket weather, soccer season... Now I'm all teary eyed and sentimental.

G'Day from Australia! Isn't this Fall Into Fall Giveaway fun?! It is just what I need as I sit in the tropical heat of Queensland, though my mind is telling me the leaves should all be change and the temperatures cooler. How I'd love to visit a Cider Mill, pick out a pumpkin, take a hayride, sip some hot cider and enjoy a warm donut. Ahhh! Those are wonderful memories. And after all that jump in a mile high pile of leaves! I grew up in Michigan...married a wonderful Aussie man a year ago and miss the FALL!

I'm so happy this is open internationally! I'm drooling over those wonderful wool felts! Please come by my giveaway, too!

I love to take long walks in the park, and hear the sound of leaves, crunching beneath you shoes. The leaves are just starting to turn, and in Toronto, that means the bright reds, oranges and yellows of the sugar maples. Quite a site to see.

BTW, it's only right that I win the giveaway. I've always wanted to make a penny rug and also have a hankering to do some dimensional beading (uses a wool felt base).

Sorry, forgot a fall memory. Back in 1984, our extended families were together at DB & DSIL's house to celebrate Amy's first birthday. Wonderful blog - I'm finding so many new ones to read with this give-away. Fall is a great time - and our kids - a zillion years ago when they were young - loved to pile leaves up in the yard and then run and jump into them. It was fun for all but someone did have to watch and make sure the first jumper was out of the pile before the next jumper ran and jumped. Fun fall memories.

My favorite fall memories are the yearly trips to pick pumpkins out of the field at a big farm. My kids and grandkids love it and we look forward to it every year. Also we like to go apple picking.

Anonymous said...

Because I now live in the South where fall comes late and green stays long. However, what I remember from year to year is looking forward to looking for the sprinkeling of reds and golds in the trees. I think because we don't see a lot of the color I really appreciate it more.

Fall memory??? Probably when my boys were little and taking them to the apple orchard. I really enjoyed that....those donuts are too good!!!

I suppose my favorite memory of fall was when all the kids were home. Every fall we would all go to the timber to cut wood. We cut black locust, so it didn't have to cure. We had a regular assembly line: dh cutting, a couple of the kids piling brush, the rest of them carrying wood to the truck, and me stacking it all up. LOL Very good memories. You have a lovely giveaway.

I think my favorite fall memory is a childhood memory. My house sat on a little hill. We had several large maple trees in our yard. There were always lots and lots of leaves that had to be raked. My brothers and sister and I would help rake the leaves down over the little hill and make huge piles. We would then run and jump from the top of the hill into the piles of leaves and scatter them everywhere. We would then rake them up and start over until our mom said that was enough and she would burn them. Sometimes if the piles were big enough we would play hide and seek and use the piles as a hiding place.

My favorite fall memory, when I was a kid, we took a vacation into New England to see all the gorgeous leaves and also went to Sturbridge (sp?) Village, a village set up like the olden days, that's always been one of my favorite vacation memories (and I'm still fascinated by "the olden days" and thoroughly enjoying introducing it all to my kids now).

I love fall, and I am beginning to realize that I enjoy celebrating Thanksgiving with family and friends even more than Christmas. Thanksgiving is really more THANKS focused, rather than Christmas which has turned into "getting stuff" focused!
I am an ESL teacher of adults learning English. Of course these people from other cultures don't have a reason to celebrate Thanksgiving or maybe don't know how b/c it is an American holiday. So I got the bright idea to start inviting people to my home so they wouldn't be sitting around lonely on Thanksgiving Day when all the stores are closed and they have a day off of work!
I have really enjoyed years past with guests from all over the world, including China, Mexico, Laos, and last year, Kenya! I also hope my own children are learning a little something about different cultures!

My favourite memory of fall is fairly recent and close to my heart. On a beautiful fall day - last September 30 to be exact - my sweetie took me on a hike up to an amazing lookout which had a view of the treetops with beautiful fall colours. Then - to my shock - he proposed! Fall will never be the same and I will always associate the beauty of fall with the love of my life!

Loving the giveaway! Percy is so adorable too!
My memory of fall is centred around me and my mom baking apple pies in her little kitchen. From the window, we can see the yellow and orange leaves falling and the neighbour's cat peering through the window. Baking was never my best skill, and I am content just slicing the apples and dusting the freshly baked pies with icing sugar. And of course, eating them! That's what fall is to me - mom, love, leaves and pies =)

Thanks Sandi! (and Percy!)

I love fall so I have lots of favorite memories. I think the one that always brings tears to my eyes happened two years ago. My son went into the Army my parents and I went to see him graduate and took his then 3 year old son with us. My son bought his son a smal army uniform. Two months later it's Halloween and I have my grandson for the night.. His mom bought him a costume but when it came time to put his costume on he didn't want the costume he wasn't to be a solider like his dada.
So he wore the Army uniform and proudly told everyone he was just like his dada....

Each year has been more magical than the last watching the play in piles of leaves and especially to see the joy on their faces as they experience the good things about Halloween. Visiting the neighbors for treats, and standing on a step stool at our door passing out goodies to other kids. Watching them parade in their costumes at preschool and just get so excited about the big day throughout all of October

Thanks for your generosity! One of my favorite fall memories was going to my grandmother's house, who didn't have central heat and air. At bedtime, we would open up the rollout bed and climb in under a couple of heavy handmade quilts. I can still feel the weight of those quilts and the wonderful feeling of security they brought!! I miss those innocent days. Thanks, brdstitcher at gmail dot com

My favorite part of fall is taking the kids to the pumpkin patch to pick out their pumpkins. Then, we came home and carved them and created a great big mess. lol

My favorite childhood memory of fall is....when I'd get off the school bus in the afternoons, I would peel my socks and shoes off and walk barefoot in the cool grass.

When I was a kid my Grandma's little village had a fall agricultural fair. My Grandma was very involved in the fair and would go through the booklet to find a craft for each grandchild to participate in and would enter our projects. I don't remember if I ever won a prize. I remember the time that my Grandma spent with us to get our projects done. We would of course have to go to the fair and she would take each of us to the craft area to show us our projects displayed. You would never realize she had 16 grandchildren, as she made each and everyone of us feel special.

One of my favorite fall memories was jumping off the schoolbus, changing into jeans, and running out to saddle up my horse to ride down to the orchard to pick an apple for me and one for the horse!
I can remember the colors and sounds and smells of those wonderful afterschool fall days.

Sincerely,

You have a great blog! So nice to visit you. What do I like about fall? For me it was always the end (because the birds are living) and the beginning (because I had to go to school) so close to each other that made it so special!

What a wonderful prize package up for grabs...truly awesome!!! An absolute quilters dream :)

My favorite fall memories are sitting outside on the front porch with my girls and watching the leaves fall from the tree. The awesome feeling that's in the air as you walk outside in the mornings. The pretty clear cool skies in the evening and just the times spent sharing small talk with family...as well as sharing hot cocoa on a cool night tucked under a blanket with my kiddos!!!

Happy Fall everyone!!!

What gorgeous wools! A fall time memory I have was from the Halloween my sister and I were princesses. We had burgundy tricot dresses my mom made for us, poster-board cone hats with trailing chiffon ribbons. It was FREEZING that Halloween, so we had to wear coats to Trick-or-Treat. We couldn't bare to cover up our pretty dresses so we put our coats under them! We were the puffiest princesses ever!

My favourite fall (autumn !!) memories are very European ! Going to the park to hunt for chestnuts then playing conkers. Building a guy (kind of like a scarecrow) to burn on Guy Fawkes Night, then having a big firework party and eating baked potatoes wrapped in foil baked in the embers of the fire.

My favorite fall memory was when i was 9. My family and I had just moved to Maine from a military base in Rota Spain. We went on a long drive and ended up in Bar Harbor Maine, the colors in the trees were just amazing, the smell in the air was wonderful. Somewhere on the route we picked up pumpkins and went on a little train ride. It was an awesome day! Ever since then my favorite season has been Autumn.

I love the fall. It is my favorite time of year. My favorite fall experience is one we relive every year. My husband and I (sometimes with our children, and sometimes without) go to Gatlinburg and just walk the streets. The foliage is beautiful, and the shops are always decorated with pumpkins and scarecrows.

Sorry, I forgot to leave my favorite memory!!!! I think my favorite memory of fall is always playing in the piles of leaves that mom would rake up. We would hide in them and cover ourselves up, she would start to load them in the bags and we would scream, it would scare her too death...but now that I look back on it, I'm sure she knew we were in there and she was just playing with us.

Hi Sandi,
what a lovely giveaway - I recently thought I had to try wools...but haven't found the time to "investigate" about it further...the colours you chose are beautiful...!
My favourite fall-memory...hmmm...I'm a September born and when I was little, I used to have a "big" party and whenever the weather was fair enough, all my friends and I went to the park to jump into the leaves that were piled up; there was a container-like thing and we all klimbed into it and threw the leaves up into the air...I loved the smell & the colours...and we had so much fun...
I think I'll go to the park tomorrow ;o)
Hugs, Julia

What a generous giveaway! My favorite memory of fall was as a kid raking the leaves into lines and creating a "house" with rooms. A more recent and special memory is of our son's wedding on a very crisp and cold late Oct. day. They were married outside at an overlook at a nearby lake. At least the sun was out and our daughter-in-law looked beautiful and our son looked very handsome. Thanks for entering me.

Oh, MY....I have only just gotten into some wool projects and would absolutely LOVE to win this prize package. My favorite fall memory is of the family Thanksgivings we'd have when the kids were growing up. (I'd cook every year.) Now we have moved a bit further from them and we have to cook our Thanksgiving meal on a weekend, but I still love the gathering......the food and the time to share in our blessings. This past year has been a rough one, but I am thankful we have come through it and hope for easier times next year.

The memory of Fall that sticks with us is when we had to close down our place at the lake...soo much work....usually it was hot and not cool as in a great Fall day. But the fish were biting and I love to fish in the fall. We are watching the tops of the trees turn orange from a recent frost, but having 80 degree temps, sure doesn't feel like Fall....I would love to win your basket! Char

When I think about Fall, I always think about Halloween. We always used to go trick or treating with some family friends and I can just remember going around the block knocking on doors (usually with a winter coat on under my costume!) and whining by the end of the night how much my feet hurt. Somehow still managed to forget that by the next year though :)

These are so much fun! Thanks so much for this giveaway, and the chance to share in all these great memories! My favorite memories are of going to a little farm outside of town with my son when he was small. The farmer would take us out to the pumpkin patch in a horse-drawn cart, past the goats and sheep and chickens, and my son would always pick out the biggest pumpkin- that he could never carry on his own! We had an annual "date" to go pick out our pumpkins. Now he's a teenager, it's not quite as magical for him, but it still is for me.....
