Bet you thought I forgot to post something "on the line" today but I'm just late, very late! I returned from my visit to Iowa about 8:30 this evening, then got unpacked and finally have time to get to the computer. The little quilts "on the line" today were made by my mother, Mary..........
The quilts in the photo above are made from lots of 3-1/2" squares that I cut and sent to my mom. She'd hand-stitch a few together, then add a backing and make a doll quilt. She gave one each to all the great granddaughters. These are some that I chose to keep.
In the photo below, my mom made these quilts from fabrics that my quilting friends sent her for her 80th birthday. She loved to hand-piece her tops. I am the same way. I really love to hand-stitch and find it to be far more peaceful than being hunched over my sewing machine. Only thing is.........it takes longer to sew things together when you do it by hand!
Time to turn in for the night. Always good to come home and sleep in your own bed!

"Sleeping in your own bed"= a good thing!! Love seeing "what's on the line" and those a so sweet. Hand quilting/piecing is like a "snail mail" letter (vs. e-mail). You know it's had the "human touch" in it's origination and that makes it extra special!!! Thanks so much for sharing!! Hugs......
I agree that hand stitching is so much more relaxing than the machine- but I fear that without my machine I'd really never actually finish anything!
I love that blue one... it just looks soothing!
I haven't been one for much hand sewing, but I'm just starting some English paper piecing with hexagons. I must say there's a certain rhythm to hand sewing that is quite soothing and relaxing in a different way than machine piecing. I don't know, at this point,if I like one over the other. But I can appreciate what both have to offer and I don't think I could have said that a couple of weeks ago. I look forward to more hand piecing and maybe even hand quilting in the future.
