Thinking of Bill Cosby.........

That's right, I've been thinking of Bill Cosby and the routine he did about the "tonsils". I seem to recall a part where he's talking about "not gonna swallow" and that's because it hurts. That was me last night. Throat so sore that I didn't want to swallow. And this is a virus so other than aspirin and cough syrup, I am at the mercy of this flu.
I was also thinking of my mother in the wee hours of this morning when I couldn't sleep because of the cough and sore throat and oh, how my ears ached! When we were little she would warm some mineral oil and then dip a cotton ball in the warm mineral oil and place it in our ear. It was soothing. I went to the bathroom cupboard and thankfully there was a bottle of mineral oil in there. I didn't take the time to heat it, just placed it on the cotton ball, put it in my ear and laid down on the heating pad to get some sleep. And it worked. I got 2 1/2 hours of solid sleep! I felt a little better after that nap. Then I took another one after lunch and before supper. I think the cough syrup is making me drowsy. It hurts to talk so I am glad that the doctor said stay home til the cough is gone. I should have stayed home all week. I'm going to make every effort to not pass this on to anyone else!
So, other than naps, what did I accomplish today? Well, I did some handquilting on a tablerunner then, I went to the pantry and decided to check all the canned goods and boxed foods to make sure they weren't expired. Exciting, huh? I've never had a pantry until we moved to this house so having a good supply of food on hand is a blessing. Again tonight, I heard another news story that donations to food shelves are down so tomorrow's excitement will be to pull a couple of bags full of items from the pantry and donate it to the Food Shelf. And there'll be some more handquilting tomorrow and probably a nap or two.
And speaking of naps, Kaiser the Wonder Beagle, excels at napping....................

When I saw that he had fallen asleep on the edge of my project table as his pillow, I couldn't believe it. How comfortable could this be? Must have been fine as he slept there for over an hour! I'm glad he likes to nap because when I am not feeling well and need a nap, he lays down and takes one, too! :-)
I'm feeling better today than yesterday and hoping that tomorrow I will feel better than I did today!
Have a lovely Sunday!
Sandi

I'm sorry you are feeling so poorly....and I believe it's at a time when you are solo there and need to do all the dog-walking and everything else. *sigh* Let's hope it does get better now each day. Too bad Kaiser can't cook and clean and take care of YOU. :)

Oh Sandi, do I feel for you. When I get the cold or flu I am like you and it really knocks me out. One thing I found when I get sick and cough a lot is to sit and lean forward on a pile of pillows. I have even sat on the floor, leaned on the couch and rested my head on crossed arms. I am bronchial and the leaning forward helped my breathing. Sounds crazy but it works for me. Years ago when my Mom was in hospital she couldn't sleep with the bronchitis etc. so I pulled the lunch tray in front of her, rolled the bed to a sitting position, got pillows and she was able to get some relief. Her Nurse was amazed to see it. Hey, whatever works,Right?

LOL you say Bill Cosby and the first thing I think of is "I Scream, You Scream, We all Scream for Ice Cream!!" I guess ice cream won't work since it hurts to swallow, but it does sound like you are on the mend.

I'm sorry to hear you are so sick. I hope it is not H1N1. I hope you're feeling better.

Thanks for the tour around the MN State Fair. I miss it so much this time of year. I must plan a summer vacation around going there.

It doesn't sound like any fun. Be careful. Sandi, because you can always get a secondary infection (not viral). I'd keep an eye on that very sore throat.

Sorry this bug has got you down. Hopefully it will ease some more tomorrow.

For the sore throat...

try gargling with warm salt water or warm tea with honey. If you don't feel up to the tea or just don't care for tea, a spoonful of honey works too. It coats the throat and eases the cough some. Honey has that natural healing quality to it.

Bill Cosby is The Man! "Um, kid ... go on and take a swallow. We want to check out the damage." "Nuh-uh, don't want to..."

I hate throats that sore. Looks like you're getting lots of good advice here. My favorite is always the throat lozenge, as it seems to work without any swallowing involved!

Feel better soon!

Sandi, so glad to hear that you are improving with each day. The mineral oil trick is one I will try to remember for my little ones, although ear infections don't seem to be an issue with them. Their big sister was a different story...how I wish I had a good trick for the middle of the night when she was little!

Take care and take as many naps as you want! It seems to suit your dog anyway!

Hope you're all better soon, Sandi. My cough is still not gone, so I guess I should still be staying in but I've been venturing out. Rest and take care of yourself. This year's flu is nothing to sneeze at! LOL!

I'm sorry to hear that you are also dealing with the flu. I will have to remember mineral oil. I could have used that a few days ago. As I write, my old beagle is also sound asleep nearby. :-)
