A book Giveaway of "The Giving Quilt" ...........

Recently, I received an e-mail that asked if I'd like to review Jennifer Chiaverini's latest novel, "The Giving Quilt". Of course, I said YES!  I am almost finished with the book and once again, it is a lovely story of the connections that are made when one is quilting. I'm not going to "giveaway" the story line, but I am going to host a giveaway and one of you will win a copy of the book and the three pins that you see in this photo.............

All you have to do is tell me if you have made a quilt and given it to someone else. While I make many quilts that I keep just for me, I also make quilts to share with others. There is something about giving a personal, handmade item that makes it a very special gift. So, just leave your comment about a "Giving Quilt" and your name and an e-mail or link back to your blog. If there is no way to contact you, I can't let you know if you are the winner!  Contest begins now! and ends April 13th at midnight. Winner will be notified and will have 24 hours to respond or another name will be drawn.

Best of luck and have a great weekend!

Sandi

And the winner is Karen O! I've e-mailed Karen and she has replied.
The pins and book will be going in the mail this Friday!

  1. Wow, what an honor to preread one of Jennifer's books.
And I like to win one. Although I did not finish a quilt yet. I am still busy wiht my first one. But does little fabrics thinds also count? I like to make something as a gift. It's fun for me to make, and it's fun for someone to receive. Something special, and specially made for you is always great to receive.

  2. I love making quilts, and almost always for others! I love giving them and whilst working on them
I think of the people I am making for, so they are very special. I like to imagine them being a comfort, keeping them warm and also a joy to look at. I suppose we are giving away a part of ourselves - a quilt wrapped around our love. In the last twenty ears I have made so many but never counted. This week one is being mailed to my sister in the UK and I spent many hours quilting it last year and now have three more on the go for other people in my life. It's a passion isn't it?

  3. I made a quilt for my nephew and his new wife for their wedding on behalf of all the aunts and uncles. It was the biggest quilt I have ever given away. I really enjoyed making it for them and they just loved it.

  4. The last quilt(s) I gave away were to my daughter's in-laws who each had had surgery. She had always talked of wanting one of my quilts and I thought, "What better time." They each sent me the nicest thank you note. Love this author and will take any chance to win one of her books. lhs4664(at)q(dot)com

  5. While many quilts l make are for me, l do make many quilts as gifts for family and friends. Special big O birthdays, 18ths, weddings and new babies are the main occasions. l have also been involved in making many group quilts for girlfriends birthdays, and have made a number of quilts for our quilt exhibitions raffle. Hmm! Maybe l need to make a a special album called The Giving Quilt for all the quilts l have gifted over the years!! l have just done a post about the worth of a quilt over on my blog. Thanks for the chance to win this book.

  6. Sandi just found your blog and love what I am reading. Don't include me in your draw because postage to Australia would be silly.
I have made many quilts but the ones I make to give away comemmorate the birth of little ones to parents who go through IVF. Being a mum who waited 7 years for our darling girl (now 20) I know exactly what it means to achieve that special wish.
    best, Kate

  9. I made a quilt for my hubby. It keeps him warm inside and out and keeps him from complaining when I spend time quilting.

  10. Most of the quilts I create are gifts. My husband often chides me about the fact that my creations leave the house so I had to make him one just to keep an example of my craft around. In fact, one of my early quilts just came back to me from my Mom, an early wall hanging I made her to thank her for teaching me to sew. She's moved to a nursing home and wanted me to keep it safe for her.

  26. I find that to be able to give away a quilt I need to know right from the beginning that I am giving it away otherwise I get too attached it! i made last year, what I consider to be my masterpiece! - a flying geese quilt in a celtic knot design. I made it for my step-granddaughter and put a lot of love into it, especially for her.

  27. I just love her books. I have made and given away many quilts, but probably the most memorable is the one I made last year for my sisters 40th birthday. Collaborated with her daughter on colors and pattern and it was a total surprise that had her in tears. Loved the great feeling it gave me. What a wonderful give away you are hosting.

  28. While I keep most of my quilts or give quilts to family or friends, now and then I make quilts for strangers (quilts of Valor, fire victims and donate quilts to shelters) and often make blocks for group quilts that also go to various causes. It just seem right to 'give back'. thanks for chance at the book.

  29. I do make quilts for giving away; in fact, most of my quilts are given away. I love to quilt and I live in a small space plus there are SO many people out there who would love a quilt. My last just went to a new home for girls that opened up in our area. I'm sure one of those girls who arrive with very little of their own will enjoy that quilt! It's a comfort and love thing!

  34. I have made and given away many quilts to friends and family. In fact, my sisters now have so many that I have given them quilt racks for storing them! I also make quilts to give as wedding or baby shower gifts and a handful of quilts each year to donate to charity.

  35. Quilting on the Cape must be much like me. I also make quilts for family members (some are picked to be in our family because of long friendship and love). There are so many groups that are trying to help children and adults. Most of my gift quilts are made with a specific person in mind, or for my ready-to-wrap baby quilt stack, or according the specifics needed by a charity. Some also need children's clothing and provide easy instructions. I mostly quilt and sew for children because I am a retired teacher and still concerned about children's well-being. Quilting is also great therapy for depression because I can put my problems away for awhile and think about helping someone else.
Please enter me in your drawing. Her books are one reason that I resumed quilting.

  36. Besides quilts for gifts, our group made quilts for the kids in foster care in our county and we make some for the local nursing home. Sometimes it's just the quilting and/or binding, but all are needed to make a quilt.

  40. I have made several quilts to give away. The first was a trip around the world for my BFF. The second was a wedding gift to a couple who I learned later does not appreciate all the work that goes into t quilt. It no longer exists. And the 3rd, an Amish quilt, went to my brother. Who does appreciate it, by the way.
