In this Third Anniversary celebration of my blog, I have reflected back on a some bloggers who inspired and encouraged. I have a couple more I want to tell you about. The first one is Mary Grace over at HookedOnNeedles. We started blogging at about the same time. She does some fantastic things with yarn. You all know I can't knit or crochet but I love seeing what others make with yarn! She's also a quilter and makes totebags and tablerunners and she just finished her postage stamp quilt. Do go and check it out!
She's also a very lucky lady. Mary Grace was a winner of my 100th post giveaway. She won this. It's a little blue basket that's filled with goodies (I'll have a fun project coming up that will feature that basket and similar ones). Interestingly, Mary Grace has won five giveaways on my blog and the last one was just yesterday! In addition to the blue basket, she won Christmas charm squares, Pinky the bunny and Easter treats, a Christmas stocking kit and the charm squares from Jacquelynne's "Sewing Room Social" fabric line. Yes, she is one lucky, and also a very talented gal!!
That stocking kit she won was featured in this post. I've always wanted to do a tutorial on that project so watch for it sometime later in the summer. And while Mary Grace won a kit, interestingly Joy was the winner of the finished stocking. That's right. Go here and you can see my husband drawing her name from the lucky basket. I got goosebumps when he read her name. Tell me, what are the odds that Joy would win the Joy stocking?!! That giveaway was one of my favorites because I loved reading the memories everyone shared of their Christmas stockings.

ReplyDeleteI'd say that the quilt that brought me the most joy was the Grandmother flower garden I made in memory of my beloved, sweet grandmother (who raised me). Many flowers are made out of her aprons, and each time I use it brings sweet memories. All hand pieced and handquilted, it took me 3 years to complete, but I enjoyed each and every stitch...

ReplyDeleteThe project that comes to mind is a family tree I did for my Auntie Helen. It showed all the branches of theimmediate family with kids shown too. We have a brother with no kids so we added leaves for all the kids they had come into close contact with.. This wall hanging mean so much to me and has brought much joy to my Auntie

Oh, I haven't been quilting long so it may change one day, but I love my first quilt I made. So many mistakes and so messy, but such a wonderful feeling when it was complete :)
ReplyDeleteHi Sandi, well I would say it was the first quilt I made for my oldest daughter. I made it with a turnover pack of the Figgy Pudding from Moda. Then I used three different white tonals for a pattern within a pattern. She was there I finished the binding. It was on her birthday but she didn't have any idea that it was her gift. When she open her package later that evening she about cried. Knowing that she appreciated the work and I still like the overall look brings me joy ;o) Thanks for the stirring of memories and a chance to win. Sarah
ReplyDeleteThere have been a lot of quilts that brought me joy. The first that comes to mind however is a guild project that I had a lot of work in. It was different from things before...and I loved the challenge.

Wonderful book! The quilt that brought me the most joy? I think might be my first log cabin (double link lap) that I did when my son was an infant. It was the first quilt I did with an overall design - learned a lot.
ReplyDeleteMy hexagon quilt that I am working on now has brought me the most joy. I have found blogging while working on this quilt. This has brought me so many bloggy friends. What a great joy. I am learning so much about quilting along the way. I have a LOT to learn still as I finish. It is a very lengthy project. I am certain I could have finished several quilts on the machine in the same amount of time I have stitched this one by hand, but perhaps I have also learned some patience along the way as well.

ReplyDeleteThe one that brought the most joy? hmmm....I really get excited with each quilt that I do. But, most recently I made a quilt for a little girl that has cancer. She loves animals and I did some embroidery on it and it was just so fun to do!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt that brought me the most joy was a Gold Star quilt that I donated to go to a Gold Star mom. I saw a few pictures of it draped during a flag ceremony and then pictures of it being presented to the Gold Star mom. It made me feel so good to know that it, hopefully, wrapped that lady in a bit of comfort.

ReplyDeleteI would think that the quilt that I made for my mom's 80th birthday was probably the most joyful. It was an envelop quilt and all of her friends and family wrote letters that we filled the envelopes with. Now I have to think what we will do for her 90th birthday coming up in a little over a year.
ReplyDeleteHi Sandi. The quilt that brought me the most joy? That would be the most recent one I finish. I'm always joyful when I finish a quilt. But, looking back through my album I would say the Lone Star quilt that I made in 2001 and entered in the quilt show at the New Prague library in March of 2002. It earned 1st place at the show. You organized that show and that's when I first met you. Lots of quilts since then. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThe most joyful has been the finished queen size "Oregon Trail" which uses piecing, applique, wool work and embroidery. It was wonderful using all those techniques in one quilt. I just love it!

ReplyDeleteThe quilt that brought me the most joy was the one I just gave to my oldest daughter for her bridal shower, made with leftover fabric from all the sewing I had done for her when she was little. A very special quilt for sure!

I've had joy from making a lot of quilts, Sandi. One of the most fun ones was the one that I wrote about recently, on my blog, in the Blogger's Quilt Festival, that I made for my daughter about 14 years ago.

ReplyDeleteSince you asked, I have THREE most joyful quilting projects!! The first 2 are little appliqued Patchabilities that were my very first quilted ANYthing and turned out sooooo well, they still hang in places of honor in our home and RV. And the other one that really gave me pleasure was quilting for the Downy Quilts for Kids (my very first pieced quilt) and one for Cammo-quilts, for an active duty soldier (have no idea who received it - just that I requested it go to a female soldier).
My only other real quilt is one I just sent off to Bama-bound Quilts, to help the smallest victims of the recent tornadoes.
As you can probably tell, I haven't made one for us yet. But, I have fabric all picked out & purchased, and the pattern is downloaded. It's Moonglow, and it's all done, in my head. So I guess you could say that gives me pleasure, too, because I think of it often! Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway - I sure could use some ideas, since all I do right now is squares & stitch in the ditch!
I am a new quilter.(18 months)My second quilt was one I made for our bed and I felt so proud, when I finished it and laid it upon our bed. My husband loved it and hugged me almost to death! LOL!

I have had so much joy from reading the comments and thinking through my quilts. I believe that my favorite is the one that I am working on now. I love Mary Engelbreit fabrics, such happy colors and darling little girls. I am making a reversible lap quilt with a different panel on each side. When I get both panels hand quilted to the batting, I will finish each side with borders, some pieced and some plain, which will be stitched in the ditch. I smile whenever I get to work on it and keep smiling as I go on to the everyday tasks. I also smile when I think about using it this winter as I hand piece, embroider, crochet, or whatever in my favorite chair.

I really love the Postage Stamp Quilt that I just finished a while ago. It was a love/hate relationship that I had with it but, it's done now and I soooo love it.

ReplyDeleteI can't really pick which one brought me the most joy, but I'm thinking the fact that I'm giving 4 as Christmas gifts this year might make ALL of them be my favorites so far. (Don't enter me in this giveaway as I have sworn OFF books right now since I have so many and haven't looked at half of them, sad to say.)

The quilt that gave me the most joy was a quilt I made for my grand-daughter. It had the pastel footprint fabric that I alternated the pastel squares with squares of footprint fabric. What made it so special is I HANDQUILTED hearts in the solid squares and little sets of footprints in the footprint squares. There were 14 sets of feet so that meant 280 toes that I quilted in it. She is 12 and still sleeps with it.
I'm fairly new to quilting, and haven't made a lot of quilts yet. Right now, the most joyful quilt I'd say I've made is the lap-sized calendar quilt I just completed for my daughter. I just got the quilt label sewn on today and she'll receive it this weekend. I've only made about 5-6 quilts, and this is the first time I've added a quilt label. This quilt made me step outside my comfort zone - I didn't like paper-piecing, and all 12 months of the year were paper-pieced.

The quilt that is bringing me the most joy is my current work in progress diamond hexagon quilt that I started when my son was born as it was the only work I could do between sleeps and feeds for such a long time. It helped me to keep my sanity. I still love piecing the hexagons now and it brings me joy each time I add to the quilt or make another diamond.

Awesome giveaway! The most joy I've made the sampler quilt for my parents 20 years ago. The fabrics are made out of all clothings that my Mom sewed for me and my sister when we were young. My mother cried so hard when she recognized the fabrics right away.

ReplyDeleteI would welcome this book to my home. My very first quilt gave me the most Joy - also the most grief. I have un-square blocks, wonky sashing, and "interesting" piecing. But I finished! I learned LOTS! I am glad I did because the art of quilting has brought a new Joy into my life for which I am grateful!
I'd love to add that book to my collection, the quilt project that gave me the most joy was the King-Size "Nestled Beneath the Pines" that was the first quilt I actually made. Took me 52 hours to complete from start to quilting and binding myself. It is now on our bed, and we just love it. I plan on repainting our bedroom and re-furnishing it based on the quilt colors and pattern. Thanks for the opportunity to win your giveaway.

ReplyDeleteBack in December of 2007, my local quilt shop had a Double Wedding Quilt class, that my husband paid for me to attend as part of my Christmas present that year. For Chistmas my youngest sister became engaged. I thought that it would be great to make the Double Wedding Quilt for her and her husband. I also thought that I would have a year to make it... little did I know that it would be only 9 months from start to done. I made them a Rainbow colored Double Wedding Quilt that I had the best time making! So many people wanted to be my younger sister... She totally loves her quilt!
I guess my most joy came from making fabric Christmas wreaths which I donated to St. Mary's Hospital gift shop to sell. The wreaths were a big hit, as people bought them for patients in the hospital during the holidays. Awesome opportunity to win a wonderful book. Thanks from Judy C in NC

ReplyDeleteIt's really hard to choose just one project that brought me the most joy. I love making miniature quilts and made one that won one of Michele's Quilting Gallery contests. It is 18 grandmother's flower garden "flowers" and all hexagons are less than one quarter inch. The whole quilt is the size if a small potholder. I love it!
