And THANK GOODNESS for FRIENDS!! And I mean, those I see regularly, some I see only occasionally, and some I have never met but feel like I have because we chat on-line! Only today, Kathy, who is in my Wooly Buddies group, sent me an e-mail that she had received the Sock Swap that I sent her. She apologized for being late in acknowledging that she had received it and said "Life just got in the way". I agreed wholeheartedly with her. Although, it's not really that life "gets in the way" so much as that "life just happens". And family and home are the things that take precedence and the blogging and quilting have to follow along. So it was for me today. Not this morning, nor this afternoon, nor this evening, did this day go as I thought it would. There were little glitches here and there but I'm finally here and so, get ready to start commenting..........only one more prize after this one!! And the question for this one is...... What is the type of stitching that relaxes you the most? For me, it's working with wool and/or woolfelt. There's something about it that makes me just want to keep stitching and I lose all my troubles in no time if I get really involved in stitching. I already noted that I love handquilting and embroidery but they require a little more careful concentration and woolwork just seems to come easy for me.

Oh...most DEFINITELY working with wool / wool felt is my favorite. It's less than a year since I discovered this, but it is truly a love of mine. That is a FABULOUS prize and I just KNOW it would be so loved and SO happy to be home with me in Delaware!!! :)

I relax when I sew but wool felting is slowly becoming an obsession. It has rekindled my embroidery skills and I like the fact the results are seen quickly.
ReplyDeleteI used to love to do cross stitching, but now mostly love to hand quilt. It is relaxing to me. I don't get to do it often, because, as you mentioned "life gets in the way". And it is hot - we live in Florida, and I cannot keep that quilt on me for very long :-)

I love stitching with my embroidery machine. There is something so fascinating to watch the machine put all those stitches in place. I especially love "in the hoop" projects, because they are usually thing that I would not other wise be able to make. I am also enjoying the learning process of working with wool and wool felt....and that is thanks to you Sandi.

I've never tried wool yet, but I know I will eventually. The most relaxing part of quilting is hand quilting. I just love watching the needle go in and out and then seeing the design start developing.

I love to redwork. I enjoy just following the lines and watching the design appear. Very relaxing physically and mentally. I really enjoy sitting outside on a cool night and watching the kids run around while I stitch up a new design.
ReplyDeleteI've not yet worked with wool, but I did buy myself a small kit to see if I'd like it. I'm pretty sure that I would. I just love hand stitching the binding down on the back of a quilt! THat is my most relaxing time! That's why I think I'd do well with applique or wool applique. If you have any tips to share about working with wool, I'd appreciate it. I have no sources locally for it...everything is purchased online.

ReplyDeleteI've admired your wool work for some time now and would love to give it a try. But my relaxation handwork is definitely knitting or crocheting. I always have some project by my chair for evening work, whether it's a sweater for one of the kids, baby hats for the new babies at the hospital, an oddball blanket for the knittinghelp forum, or an afghan for a wedding gift...always something in progress. I like to have something to show for the time I just sit and relax.

Can't believe 8 days are almost gone! This has been fun and brought up some old memories. I guess I would have to say Redwork for relaxation. All one color and just follow the lines. plus it can go with you. Wool felt is one craft that I have never tried, really like the looks of it and maybe someday.

I haven’t done anything by way of wool felt and would love to win this prize, so then I could try something new. (Like I have time to start trying new things- not).

I've always enjoyed hand embroidery; I find it very peaceful. I have only done two wool projects--a pincushion and a journal cover. I really enjoyed doing both. I'd love to do some more. Congratulations on your anniversary!

ReplyDeleteHandwork of any kind is very relaxing for me but my favorite is embroidery, and crocheting runs a close second. I have not worked on wool, although I want to but I have done that type of work on felt which I enjoyed. I bought a wool jacket at the thrift shop which I plan to cut up and try it.

I like stitcheries but applique probably is very relaxing too as you are just going around the edges, so I'll say that too. Have just started playing with hexagons, and that's good too. And I have a pattern using the wool felt but haven't got any yet, so I'm still to try that one out. Gee, guess thats too many favourites... as long as I'm stitchin is the main thing!

ReplyDeleteI love quilting but, since I am a hand quilter, too much of it at a time is painful for the top of the finger. Stitching the patchwork pieces is quite relaxing because all the thinking is already done while cutting and of course the most mindless of all - the basting of shapes for English Paper Piecing - beats them all to the top.

I have always wanted to try to make a felt penny rug. Some of the patterns I've seen are just beautiful. Never could understand why in the old days, people used these lovely items to put their candles on them and then all the wax would drip? I love handwork and wish my stitching looked as nice as some of the Australian embroidery I see. I enjoy embroidery on crazy quilts as well as redwork. I just like to have a needle and thread in my hands.

I love any kind of embroidery. I started it as a little kid when Mom was embroidering just about everything we wore! Such beautiful work. I got into cross-stitch as I got older, but I do really enjoy both.

Cross stitch was the first stitch my mum taught me and it's so simple to do. I can't go past this for relaxing stitching. Most other types of stitching I do require a bit too much concentration!

ReplyDeleteI can relax with any kind of stitching – unless I am following a hard-to-read pattern with poor lighting. Embroidery is probably best because of the variety of colors and stitches. Of course, it can be used to embellish other kinds of sewing as well.
ReplyDeleteI have often worked in careers (like teaching) in which it is heard to see what has been accomplished that day. Sewing shows what has been done all the time. Of course, I also spend my share of time with the ripper, but we won’t mention that.
