A funny thing happened.........

Yes, that's part of a title to a movie and it fits the little incident that took place as I drove home from Iowa today. I don't have a picture of this so imagine please............

I was just about an hour from home today, heading north on Hwy 169, when out of the corner of my eye...........I noticed a pheasant in some bushes along the side of the road. I watched as the bird tried to "lift off" and I realized that he was not "lifting off" very well and was, in fact, headed straight for my windshield. With a big "THUNK", the bird hit the passenger side window but scooted up over the top of my car. I was sure the windshield might crack but it didn't. I felt bad for the bird and as soon as I could safely turn around, I drove back and looked for him (her). No bird in sight, so I am hoping that the pheasant was just stunned by the impact and is now safely nested somewhere and licking it's wounds. :-)

Interestingly, that's not the only item I've hit on that stretch of Hwy 169. About six years ago, I was just a little further south on 169 and I hit a black rocking chair that had fallen off someone's truck. It was night and until I was almost on top of it, I didn't see it. I swerved and avoided a direct hit but severely damaged the bumper that time. My son and my six year old grandson were with me. My son had just dozed off and was startled by the sound but my grandson loved that adventure because the police checked out the situation. As a six year old, he thought it was all pretty cool.

Sooooooooo, anyway........I'm home again and trying to get caught up. I have many comments to reply to and winners to notify for the additional prizes I offered during Jacquelynne's Book Blog Tour. I'll begin doing that on Tuesday afternoon. I will be catching up on my sleep first. :-)  If you want to know who won the copy of Jacquelynne's book, just check out her blog...... The*Noble*Wife .
Back later today.............

I'm glad you are home safe and sound and didn't have any broken windshield from the bird incident. Rest up...you deserve it!

I once hit a bunny on Easter Sunday morning, on my paper route, and the bunnies they have in Cali, stand about 3 feet tall when perched up on their hind legs, I cried the whole paper route that morning, cuz I killed the Easter bunny.

Glad you are safe and sound at home. I probably would over react to the hit and swerve like crazy. Glad you didn't have that problem.

I'm thinking that you could have had pheasant soup... but it got away. Glad you are safe.

So happy you're safely home and no damage was done (and hopefully, the pheasant is recovering, too!). Good news that your mom is recovering well.

And that is why I rarely go to Iowa - it's just too dangerous, with the lurking rocking chairs and vicious pheasants.

My Dad once hit a duck with his Dodge Omni. He told me that the Dodge didn't dodge, and the duck didn't duck.

Several years ago my husband was driving his pickup down a gravel road when a big jackrabbit crossed his path, and jumped straight up, and smashed the windshield. You really have to watch out for the bunny rabbits... it's just not safe anywhere. ;)
