Tea and Cake and Birthday Fun!!

Here it is, the final prize in my One Year Blog Anniversary Celebration. And the time has come to party because today is also my birthday! I've named this prize "Tea and Cake". Actually, there is no tea in it and also no cake. I didn’t include any tea for we all have our favorite cup of tea or coffee, but I did include a little book “Tea and Friendship” that you can read while relaxing with that favorite cup of tea or coffee. Instead of cake, I bought this little cookbook at Michael’s and there are some yummy treats to make or bake in that little book. Speaking of books, of course, there’s a notebook for keeping track of your favorite recipes and friends, plus some cupcake notecards so that you can keep in touch with those friends. Oh, and Mary E post-it notes to remind you to buy more fabric. Speaking of fabric.........I found the two fabric panels at our nearby Deuber’s Variety Store but the strip of tea cups is from a Dutch line of fabric that I bought several years ago. That's it for the final prize!

Before I give you the comment question, I'll share the story of the conversation that occurred at my daughter's daycare facility last Friday. It gave us all quite a chuckle!............. It went like this……….
My daughter, Collette, was giving me a tour of newly painted and rearranged classrooms and then introduced me to the 3 and 4 year olds. She tells them “this is MY mommy”. To which one cute little guy quickly pops up and says to me “you're old, how old are you?” I reply “How old do you think I am?” and he promptly answers “45!” And I start laughing to me!! So I tell him, “well, that’s close but I am going to be 60” to which he replies “no, you’re 49!” And we all laughed and I am thinking........I really like this little guy!! So, you heard it here, he said it’s so…….I am 49. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!”
Now it's time for you to comment and all you have to do is tell me what was your favorite birthday gift. I'm going to tell you what mine is later tonight. :-)
Have a good day!
Sandi

When my family and I were poor, I really appreciated the gifts that we did get. My favourite one was for my 16th birthday. My dad blindfolded me and led me to my gift. It was a beautiful spinet piano. I couldn't believe that I got it, as I always had wanted it, but I knew we were so poor. My dad took two extra jobs and saved up for it, so it meant the world to me. I was crying and crying when I saw it, but they were tears of joy.
I had it for many, many years until I moved to Ireland.

Sandi,
Wish you a very very Happy Birthday !! Hope you have a great great day !! :-))
An ideal bday gift for me would be a huge stash of fabrics, floss, embellishments, kits ... but I loved receiving all the gifts from my parents and teddy bears, Harry Potter DVDs from my husband.
Thanks.

Hi Sandi
My favourite birthday gift that I can remember would have to be the car (a VW Multivan) that my husband bought me as a surprise a few years ago. It's great for carting our four children around and it was such a surprise and is such a lovely car!
Thanks for all your giveaways... even if I don't win one!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, my friend!!! We can both be 60 together (at least for a few more weeks...it's not so bad...really, it isn't). Gee.....as for a favorite b'day gift, the only one that comes to mind is that last year hubby and younger daughter made a DVD called "This is your life" and it was really neat to see how they put together lots of old photos with music. Thanks for all these fun questions and the great prizes you offered this past week. ENJOY your day with Colette and the crazy quilt pals! Wish I lived close enough to join in the fun.

I had never had a Surprise Birthday party. When I was 25 I thought everyone had forgotten about my birthday. For some reason I was really depressed about turning 25. More so than when I turned 40. My friends got together and threw me a huge Surprise party. My best friend Rodney gave me a huge Teddy Bear. No one had ever given me a bear as a gift. I still, almost 20 years later, have that bear and remember my friend.

Hugs to you and hope you have a great birthday!

My favorite birthday gift is just having family with me. Spending a birthday alone would be so very depressing and lonely. After all, family is what it is all about. Happy Birthday - hope you have a great day with family and friends.

Mine was a handmade pillow from my daughter. I love all the handmade things I recieve as gifts.

My favorite gift is the fact that in our family you have a birthday cake always, on your birthday. Sometimes the kids would have a party on a different day that was more convenient but they still have cake on their day. It is served on a special plate that was given to me many, many years ago. Sure hope your day is special because you my Friend are a Very Special Person.

Happy Birthday Sandi!

Cute story too. I agree...the kid is smart and that's your age. Don't argue with kids. (smile)

My favorite birthday gift is when my Dad gave me my first sewing machine around 15 years old, I think. I loved that machine and still have it today. I can remember sitting at the dinning room table sewing on it for hours.

Wow there are some great gifts mentioned in the comments. I guess the best gift was one from my dear sweet hubby. He gave me a beautiful necklace. I still get many compliments on it. He has very good taste :-)
As a p.s. to your little story. My daughter used to teach violin lessons to beginners in our home. One sweet little girl asked her why she lived with her sister (me)!! I laughed and loved that little peep :-) Out of the mouth of babes.

Happy Birthday Sandi!!

I guess my favorite gift would have to be my nephew who was born on my birthday, but there are many wonderful one's.
Loved your little story out of the mouths of babes!!

I hope you have a very happy birthday. Birthdays are fun ... well, maybe until you get ancient and then who is counting? My favorite birthday gift was a large bouquet of exotic flowers from my daughter. Something very different and unexpected.

Happy Birthday! Hope you are spending the day doing something you love!

My favorite birthday gift was a kitten when I was 8! She was a calico (my favorite) and I named her Shag because she looked like our carpet.

I'm not really into tea so you don't really have to enter me in this giveaway, I just wanted to say Happy Birthday!
Hugs

Well, the gift I think of first is my sewing machine which I use all the time. But, a little gift tradition that one of my boys started was to buy me a skillet every year for Christmas. At first I was not too thrilled...I use to think of Christmas as get me what I WANT not what I NEED, but every year, that's what he got me. Well, he married and moved on and you know I really miss the frying pan presents! It was nice to have a real no stick pan. I was just lamenting the fact that no one will ever get me frying pans anymore and that is sad because even my bacon sticks while frying, so I do need another one. Well, on mother's day...guess what I got?! A new frying pan....I'm a happy camper. Is it so hard to just go out and buy myself a stupid new pan...NO! For some reason, I keep waiting for my gift....

My husband has been pretty good to me for my birthday. One year he bought me a house. Another year he bought me a new-ish car. Other times he just lets me free at the fabric/craft stores :)

I loved your story....Kids say the darnedest things!

My favorite birthday give has to be a little box that my oldest son made me at camp. They took match boxes and put tiles on them and little bead handles and made little boxes out of them...I still have it.

Happy Birthday again Sandi, I'll spare you from the singing again LOL.

My favorite birthday present is the phone call from my son. Hearing him say "I Love You Mom" is better than a diamond necklace.

May your birthday be filled with I Love You's.

Kids are so honest, aren't they?

Our first child was actually due on my 28th birthday, but she was born a week early. So I would have to say that she was my very favorite early birthday present! And now she's graduating from high school this weekend. Where did that 18 years go?

Great extended birthday celebration for you Sandi! I hope you enjoyed it as much as all your readers did! I sure had a good time!

Happy happy Birthday!!! My favorite gift was the sewing machine my grandmother gave me when I was 16. A very close second was a quilt that my mom and grandmother made for me. I really enjoy your blog!

My best birthday gift came early when I turned 30, and our daughter was born a few days before my birthday, we already had 2 darling boys so a baby girl was relly special. She is now a mother of 4.

Happy Birthday Sandi!

Growing up we got to choose what kind of birthday cake we'd like and my mum would make it from scratch. It was a big decision!

Happy Happy Birthday!! You really don't want me to sing it!! I can only remember one present, it was a bike (used one) that my Dad had refinished for me. At my age now I keep giving out hints for sewing things to no avail. Hubby usually forgets all about it. He doesn't like to celebrate anything. Always threatened to take all the cards the kids had given me and string them up around the house so he couldn't forget!! So it is really not a big day around here, even tho I would like for it to be. Sandi---do make it a wonderful day!!

Without a doubt sitting at my quilting frame, hand quilting relaxes me and lets me forget all the worries. I often listen to a book on disc at the same time so am transported into another place.
Embroidery or hand applique would be a close 2cnd.

My favorite b-day gift was a ring that my DH gave me. It was a replacement for my birthstone ring that had been stolen from our house. All on his own he went out and purchased a replacement. That was 34 years ago and I still remember how surprised I was.

Well, my favorite b-day gift probably has to be my five diamond anniversary ring. You’re thinking anniversary ring for a birthday?! Well, it was for both. We were on a cruise celebrating our anniversary (which is in August) over my birthday (in October) and we were in St. Thomas, which was where we honeymooned. We thought it only practical to buy the ring while there. I love it!

Due to overcrowding we had to cut down a flowering crab in our yard. I knew my Dad had a friend who carved wood, so we offered the tree trunk to him which involved some hauling. On my next birthday, I was so surprised when my Mom and Dad gave me a bowl they purchased from the carver made from our very own crab apple tree! It's beautiful.
Happy, happy birthday!!

Happy birthday Sandi! I hope you have a wonderful day. I remember a birthday when all of the kids, but one, decided they were too sick to go to church. My dh insisted I go on and he would take care of them. When I got home they had the whole house decorated with balloons and streamers. My youngest daughter had baked a cake. (She forgot to put the baking powder in it, but we ate it anyway. LOL) We had shrimp and french fries cooked by dh. It was quite the surprise party. They even made me wear a hat. LOL I just remember the party, not the gift. I am sure it was some sort of kitchen gadget, though. Winona

My favorite birthday gift. "Mom," 2nd DD said. "We are going on a daytrip and you don't need to pack." So we left the house in her car and she began driving and a little over an hour later we were in the Capital of our state at a large convention Center and on the Marquee, the magic words. Quilt Show! A mega quilt show it turned out to be, my very first and I loved it! Sarah e4e823l@yahoo.com

Happy Birthday!!

My favorite birthday gift--there have been so many! lol For the last 8 years (since I married DH) I have purchased my own. He is definitely not a shopper and doesn't have a clue about quilting stuff. I usually go online and purchase some fabric that I like. We do the same thing for Anniversaries and Christmas.

Well! Happy Birthday to You! Boy, wish I could go back to 60.....hmmmmm. I had to think long and hard about what was my favorite birthday gift and first I thought of how my middle daughter always supports my fabric obsession with a gift card from JoAnn's Fabrics. BUT... that same daughter, when she was in high school and we had just moved into this home gave me my first hydrangea bush for my birthday. She knew I was disappointed that Spring when no flowers showed up in our new yard, so come April 30th she bought me a pretty pink hydrangea which still blooms every year under my kitchen window. I think of her everytime I see that bush all year! And she started something here because we now have over 25 Hydrangea bushes which I seem to have a knack of growing and our home has been named "Hydrangea House".

Hope you had a wonderful Birthday with your friends. I loved your birthday story, children are so precious.

Over the years I have had many wonderful birthdays. Gifts are nice but having my family and love ones with me is the most precious of all. My first child was born 5 days before my birthday and my last grandchild was born on my Birthday. What more can you ask for? I have truly been blessed.

I have enjoyed visiting your blog each day this week. It has been fun. Keep up the good work and happy stitching!

My favorite birthday gift was my DH flying my mom in to spend my birthday with me. He was going to be in Asia on my birthday and didn't want me to be alone. When DS #2 learned she was coming to visit, he drove from NY to be with me too. We had a lot of fun that weekend.

My favorite Birthday gift was a polaroid swinger camera, I know I'm dating myself but when I was a child I loved taking picures and always used my mother's camera(the kind you'd hold and look down into) so I was thrilled when I finally got my own and of course I could watch the pictures develop.
But my ideal Birthday is spendng it with family and friends. Thanks for letting me share.

The birthdaygifts I remember the most must be the one I got from my children when they where kids. Drawings, poems they had made and warm hugs when they woke me up in the morning. Laying in bed hearing them whispering in the kitchen when they made me a sandwich and when they tip toed into the bedroom. That is wonderful memories.

My favorite birthday gift arrived just before my 14th birthday, and I got to help pick it out. As I think about that day of long ago, it still seems as dreamlike as it did then. I had always wanted to take piano lessons. For years there was no money for a piano or lessons. That summer my parents asked if I still wanted piano lessons. After all, I had given up and quit asking. Of course, I still wanted to play the piano! My father had heard of a man in a town about 30 miles away who fixed up old pianos and sold them. He had some old uprights that he had figured a way to scale down the outside of, and then he painted them rather than try to match the stain of old wood and new wood. We asked a long-time piano teacher to teach. She said that she had decided not to teach piano anymore, but that she would teach me anyway. Once a week my father picked me up after school and drove me 13 miles to the school where she taught, and I had my lesson on the piano in her 1st and 2nd grade classroom.

I still have my treasured piano. It is now painted a light creamy yellow. For those with some farm background, it is the color of freshly churned butter which has no additives except some salt. One of the family pictures that I have on top is one of the few pictures that I have of my father, who died when I was 19 years old.

My favorite birthday gift was given to me by eldest son when he was 9 (he’s now 27). He received $2.50 a week for allowance and he saved his money until he had enough to take me out for a Lobster dinner at Red Lobster. He was so very proud when just the two of us went on a birthday date. When the bill came he realized that he hadn’t saved up enough money to pay for both of our dinners and he was crushed. I told him that my dinner was especially delicious and that my birthday was wonderful because of his thoughtfulness. He paid for my dinner and I paid for his and we both left the restaurant with smiles on our faces.
